The national UTeach community includes university leaders, development officers, faculty, master teachers, staff, and students across 29 universities in 14 states.
UTeach Improvement and the National Community
Data collected by the UTeach Institute are used to both strengthen the UTeach program model and improve the ways we support and evaluate its replication. In addition to the annual UTeach Institute-NMSI Conference, the UTeach Institute develops and coordinates the following support structures to facilitate collaboration and coordinate various UTeach program activities nationwide.
The UTeach Co-Director Network
UTeach co-directors share information and work together on a variety of challenges related to initiating and sustaining UTeach programs. This group shares ideas via a dedicated email list and at the annual conference.
The UTeach Master Teacher Network
Master teachers for UTeach programs nationwide support each other as they recruit students, teach and co-teach UTeach courses, manage field experiences, and engage in a variety of other activities. In addition to meeting annually at the UTeach Institute-NMSI Conference, master teachers come together annually in January for a retreat and share ideas via a dedicated email list.
UTeach Course Networks
Faculty, master teachers, and others involved in implementing UTeach courses meet annually for course retreats preceding the UTeach Institute-NMSI Conference and collaborate via email lists dedicated to each UTeach course.
The UTeach Research Consortium
A diverse group of science, education, and social science researchers committed to advancing knowledge on STEM teacher preparation collaborates at the UTeach Institute-NMSI Conference and typically at another professional conference (e.g., AERA) each year. In addition, this group communicates as needed to discuss research proposals on UTeach and its replication via a dedicated email list.
The WeTeach Student Network
Initiated by the National Math and Science Initiative, WeTeach is a national UTeach student and alumni group that provides a forum for professional networking and support.
The UTeach Development Workgroup
Development professionals at universities implementing UTeach programs nationwide come together at the annual conference and collaborate via an email list to focus on coordinating fundraising and development efforts for local, regional, and cross-program fundraising.
Statewide Induction Support Structures
The UTeach Institute coordinates induction activities across UTeach programs in Texas and plans to develop a national induction program model for UTeach graduates. In addition, we work with regional and state initiatives to coordinate UTeach induction support (e.g., Florida’s Statewide UTeach Coordination and Induction Center).
