teachHOUSTON Receives $1 Million Gift

teachHOUSTON has received a $1 million gift, of which $250,000 will fund scholarships and $750,000 will go to an endowment for the program.The University of Houston’s teachHOUSTON program has received a $1 million gift from Kitty King Powell, its largest to date. A portion, $250,000, will be used for scholarships and maintaining current operations. The remainder, $750,000, will be used to begin an endowment for the program. “This generous gift will play a significant role in helping us achieve our goal of producing 100 new high school math and science teachers per year by 2015,” said Jeff Morgan, co-director of teachHOUSTON.
